EES, ETIAS, Schengen Area

Entry requirements

Denmark is part of the Schengen Area. The rules for non-European visitors changed in 2026.

Check before you book. These rules change. Consult the official European Union page and your country’s foreign ministry.

EES: already in place

The EU Entry/Exit System has been fully operational since 10 April 2026. Non-European short-stay travellers register their biometric data at the border: allow a little extra time the first time you cross.

Are there border checks?

Yes, even when coming from a Schengen country: Denmark has notified checks at its border with Germany until 11 May 2027. For the Swedish border, official sources differ. Always keep your document with you.

ETIAS: not yet in service

When we checked, on 2 November 2026, the official EU website stated that ETIAS was not in service and that no applications were being collected. No launch date had been published. The authorisation will apply to visa-exempt non-Europeans, including British and Canadian nationals. The announced fee is €20, except for under-18s and over-70s, and it will be valid for three years. Beware of websites already offering to take payment for it.

Length of stay

Visa-exempt visitors can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period, across the entire Schengen area.
